Who is Liv Wood?

Hey there! My name is Liv and I am going into my senior year at American University in Washington, DC, though I am from Exeter, NH. I am studying broadcast journalism and graphic design. Currently, I’m interning at NBC Washington as a News4 Intern where we learn the ins and outs of the broadcasting industry. I have had opportunities to go out in the field, shadow producers and watch newscasts from the control room, and use professional equipment to make packages and reels.

I am a former intern at WJLA ABC7 News, WMUR-TV, and Hotvox. You can see more about what I did during those internships on my “Resume” tab! After graduating, I hope to go into local news and report on air, telling the stories of the community I am apart of. Whether it is a general assignment, politics, entertainment, or lifestyle and culture, I am ready to share the news in an impactful way!

As an ambitious individual, along with my interests in news, I also host a weekly investigative true crime podcast with my dad. I am looking forward to what the future holds after I graduate from AU in May 2025.

Over the past three years at American University, I’ve been able to work with some extremely talented people who have taught me how to be a better student journalist. I’ve taken classes like Backpack Video Journalism where I was able to learn what it means to MMJ and edit, write, and produce packages professionally. I learned about radio news and how to record interviews successfully and clearly using microphones—and yes, I figured out how to soundproof my closet! I took reporting classes and how to write for communications classes so I can write effectively. I even joined ATV News for a few years and practiced anchoring and reporting for American University’s student newscast. But, I didn’t always know what I was doing…

In high school, prior to Covid, I was in a broadcast club called Hawk.0 where we interviewed students and did weekly newscasts about issues pertaining to the student body. I fell in love with the theatrics of it all and the production aspect. Right before February in 2020, I had the opportunity to go to Good Morning America and watch the morning show. I did a tour of the studio and instantly knew that news was for me. The bright lights, the fast paced environment, the interviews and stories enamored me. Going from a small town in New Hampshire to our nation’s capital was quite the change, but I believe one thing that stuck with me was this idea of community. Since then, I’ve really gotten to know my new home and neighborhood in DC. While working at WMUR, WJLA, and now NBC Washington, I found a love for local news.
